This was an extremely difficult project because of Heritage/conservation issues in respect of the existing 100-year-old dwelling.
Having regard to the poor condition of the existing 2 Bedroom house, the owners wished to construct a new dwelling that would maintain the character and feel of the existing but which would provide additional accommodation, a modern efficient Kitchen and loads of natural light.
The final design incorporated a Garage, 2 Bedrooms at Ground Floor level, Living Room with Jetmaster fireplace, a Country Kitchen (using 100 year old recycled Oregon timber) and Family/Eating area, a full Bathroom and an internal Laundry. The main Bedroom and En-suite were designed into the roof space.
Woollahra Council required the new curved corrugated front Verandah roof to utilize the original curved timber framing. The owner carefully dismantled the original verandah framing timbers and painstakingly restored them. In addition the new timber posts supporting the verandah roof were hand-made by the owner.
The owner's are delighted with their new home and they have referred a number of new clients.
